The department is a result of a fusion between the Institute of Geography and the Geological Institute. The Department of Geography & Geology carries out research and offers courses at bachelor, masters and Ph.D. level.

The department of Geography & Geology is a part of the Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen. The department is also a part of Geocenter Denmark which is a national center of geoscientific research, education, consulting, innovation and publishing at a high international level.
